G. Archival Work
Assisted Maureen Mary in search through the archives of Pauline Gibling Schindler from 1992 to 1996. The bulk of the archive is now deposited in the University of California, Santa Barbara, along with the architectural drawings of R M Schindler. Some 60 letters between F L Wright and R M Schindler during the construction of the Imperial Hotel, when Schindler was superintendent of Wright's US offices in Chicago and Los Angeles, are now with The Getty. A further 20 letter between John Cage and Pauline Schindler have been purchased from Mark Schindler byThe Getty, see 'Letters: the brief love of John Cage for Pauline Schindler, 1934-35; transcription and introduction by Maureen Mary' ex tempore: A Journal of Compositional and Theoretical Resaerch in Music VIII/1 1996.

Inquiry concerning the architecture of spatial configurations from both an
historical and mathematical viewpoint.
Design MC 221: Proportion
Quantitative aspects of design. Examination of proportion theory from classical times to the present day with special emphasis on renaissance methods and their classical sources in Euclid's geometry and Nicomachus' arithmetic.
Design MC 222: Symmetry
Qualitative aspects of design. Examination of the Euclidean transformations in the plane. Enumeration of plane symmetry groups. Symmetries of the Platonic solids. Counting configurations up to symmetry. Coloring designs. Applications of Polya's counting theorem. Examples from architecture and other designs.
Design MC223: Compartition and Order
Relational aspects of design. Relations and operations on relations.
Identity, equivalence and tolerance. Graph theory and map theory. Trivalent polyhedral representations of plans. Hierarchical and partial orderings. Lattice theory and object feature representations in designs.
Design 229: Advanced Seminar in Architectonics
Graduates only. Advanced topics with an emphasis on research issues.
